Gilles, I am not sure whether this should go to kipi-plugins or not.

One simple implementation within digikam could be the following:
- add a new menu: "External Tools" (etc.)
- the entries can be added using a simple dialog with fields:
   programm  commmandline_arguments  keyboard-short-cut
- the entries are stored in the digikam config file
Whenever there is an active selection, all selected images are passed
to the command on activation.
