Apologies ..... wrong forum.

Sort by filename does not appear to be correct:

If I have a file from the camera for instance IMG_1234.CR2, when I import it into dt the filename is changed to 20120512_006.CR2 (date +sequence) .... that is the filename now shown throughout my computer. The original camera designation is then totally immaterial.

If I now open multiple folders I am finding that images are scattered throughout the set without regard of date. This is not helpful.

Re: sort by filename

David, you're still on the Digikam list, and not on the Darktable list... unless 'dt' is for Digikam?

My camera filename is of the form ..... IMG_1234.CR2

When I import from the camera the file name is changed to the form .... 20120505_0016.CR2
In other words folder-date+sequence-number. This is one of the dt import options and avoids duplication of camera output numbers.

My image file is then only known on the entire system  with that date/sequence name.

But dt only uses the now obsolete camera name that does not exist and to make matters worse the database is now so confused that file folders become totally fragmented if I open multiple folders for any reason (for instance for selecting all 4 star within a one year period).

Maybe I explained it better this time ;=))

I usually import my photos with digikam (better settings for file name)
and after that work with darktable to process the raw files. With this I
don't have any problems regarding file names.
