I have already reproted the problem in this mailing list...

Gerhard, the problem is relevant of your commit about to patch directly the translated strings into .desktop files in digiKam.

You don't need to do it directly. Translators have .po files for .desktop files in svn. It's work exactly like GUI or DOC translations. A script extract the strings to translate from .desktop and create/update .po file automaticly. Another script update the .desktop file with the .po translated files.

If you patch manually the .desktop files with your translation, the UTF-8 encoding of strings are not respected. Please remove your patch from .destop files and lets the script working for you. Just guide translators to the right .po files to use for desktop file to translate...
