pics with the same name

Bugzilla from doc.evans@gmail.com
Using a Nikon P5000 with digikam 0.9.2 on 64-bit gutsy.

When I go to download files from my camera, there are frequently several
files with the same name in the camera. (I'm not sure how the P5000 exactly
lays out things, but I assume that it maintains separate directories for
different days, or something like that; it certainly seems to contain
multiple directories).

This leads to a problem when I try to download all the images: digikam
keeps prompting me when it sees a duplicate file name, asking me whether it
should skip or overwrite (or asking for a new name -- which isn't useful if
one has more than a couple of duplicate names).

How do I get digikam to do something such as include the date/time in the
destination file name so that it never sees any duplicate names?

Hi Doc Evans,

there is a function to rename files while downloading them. Take a look in the
download-dialog there is a option to rename the files with date and time in
the name.

Maybe I'm blind, but I sure don't see anything like this.

I select "Download All", and it then asks me to identify the album to which
I want to send the pictures, but there's no option to do anything at all:
in particular there's no option that allows me to change the names of the
files as they are downloaded.

Oh, I found how to do this. I had looked under "Settings" and not found
anything. But I see there's a tiny tab that is also called "Settings" but
leads somewhere different, and which allows me to set this.

Sorry to have bothered you.

This sounds a like a useability problem.
If you have any suggestion how things could be improved,
it would be very much appreciated, if you could
file a wish in the bug tracker
(ideas posted just in the mailing list get quickly lost/forgotten ...)

Thanks a lot in advance,

Arnd
