Hallo,
I want to use ‚digikam‘ on an iMac. After installing ‚Macports‘ the command is # sudo install digikam.
What does this # mean?

Hi Wilfried
In this context, # represents the shell prompt in a terminal, which may
be different on your system.
After installing MacPorts you have to open a terminal and enter the command:
"sudo port install digikam"
(without the quotes). Then you will be asked to type in your password.
After that you will see all the bits and pieces needed for digikam being
installed, which will take a long time.
