icc-profile for EOS 20D that should work with lcms

Hi list and especially hi Daniel,

I read and test a lot of stuff to get a better raw experience with a Canon
DSLR and digiKam. As I own an IT8 card I created an icc profile by myself.

Can you please test this one:

This profile does not follow the tips in
http://lprof.sourceforge.net/help/lprof-help.html @"Special Considerations for
Wide Gamut Devices" so for sure it is not high quality but a start.


You can get the raw image from the raw image database
http://digikamplugins.free.fr/RAWFILESDATABASE/CANON-EOS20D.CR2.bz2
and the target reference data from
http://www.colorreference.de/targets/R011201.zip

Hi Thorsten,

In my settings this gives a darker result than the profile Gilles suggested:
http://digikam3rdparty.free.fr/ICCPROFILES/CameraProfiles/EOS 20D.icc
while this gives still to "flat" results

This is interesting as I was desperatly searching for a tool to build my own
profiles... (I lost my self-made monitor profile made with adobe when Win98
deleted itself from my PC)

Since you've pointed me to LPROF ICC Profiler for Linux I'll now have to go
and find a new IT8 card somewhere to perform my own tests...

So far it is clear that having good results all depends on having the right
profiles. However I am still confused about the naming/handling of color
mangement in 0.9.0 svn as described in detail in my yesterday mail
"underlying / basic concepts of 0.9 colour management?" and I hope some
people will join in that thread next week...

Daniel, I have seen you message in the ML. I'm busy this week end, but i
suggest to check the contextual help in digiKam. Use SHIFT+F1 and select the
widget where you want some help. In ICC setup dialog page, all options have
been  documented as well by Paco.

Maybe we should also compare the settings:

io: raw-file cms is off
cms-profile:
 workspace profile: adobe 1998
 monitor profile: (here) Samsung
 input profile: EOS 20D or EOS 20D linear
cms-advanced:
 Use color managed view
 Use black point compenstation

Using color managed view makes a huge difference here while it is deadly
slooooowwww on a X64-4000.

Another good introduction into cms (and much more) is

(so far its German only)

If your monitor work in sRGB colorspace (all CRT and LCD monitor normally),
and if you use sRGB workspace in digiKam, it's not necessary to enable color
managed view. Here i don't use it.

I have optimized a little this part during this week. Have you a fresh svn
checkout on your computer ?
