how to convert new digikam database into old database format

is there a way to convert digikam4.db to digikam3.db ?

Not that I know of. Should be possible using SQL, but it would be easier to
write metadata to images and rescan. Note that such a conversion would involve
throwing away about 90% of the info contained in the newer format.
