downloading from Canon Powershot 710

N Fuller
I was happily using a work around suggested by jdd to download images
from my Canon Powershot 710S to digiKam 1.0.0-beta 5 (running on Ubuntu
9.0) - that is, to unmount the camera from my computer first.  Suddenly,
without my making any changes, digiKam crashes every time I try to
download, although I can view the images.  I am leery about updating
digiKam without some expert help - not a techie at all.  Any other
suggestions or do I have to "bite the bullet" and do the upgrades?

Since you are using a beta version you should not really wonder... Since
the current stable is 1.3.0 maybe its time to do an update.

The problem could also be your Ubuntu.

However: maybe another way would be the use of a card reader. This is
how I usually import the pictures. My notebook has one embedded but for
standard PC's they are included often as well or cost not much. With a
card reader your SD-card acts like an usb stick. If then there is a
crash you should really blame Ubuntu...
