i love digikam. it just works with jpgs, CR2, DNG, RWL, raw files
while the "mainstream" users are tikering with raw converters.
my only concern is that i keep seeming to lose all the meta-data,
like album thumbnails and notes. i have just under 200GB of albums
on a NAS drive. the db file is on a local raid partition (which is
much easier with the newest version of digikam.)
just today, i fired up digikam with the NAS not mounted, and i think
that creamed the db file. when i remounted the drive, and restarted
digikam, the albums were recreated, but the metadata was lost.
i think some sort of autosave or periodic backup of the db files
might make things more stable. i've made backup copies of the db files,
but when i try to replace the digikam4.db with the backup, i get
an error that the new file is not compatible.
maybe i'll try a wrapper script that backs up the db file when
digikam starts and exits.
thanks,
-rei
