Two weeks ago I updated from digikam rc to digikam2
I am using ppa:philip5/extra ppa:philip5/kubuntu-updates ppa:philip5/kubuntu-backports for my Kubuntu 11.4 KDE 4.7. After updating Digikam2 it didn't start anymore. I tried a reinstall and found out, the problem is openni-utils and llibopenni. They doesn't configure. Using synaptic I get the following message (from german): E: openni-utils: subprozess installed post installation Script gives error 132 E: libopenni: dependency problems - not configured digikam shows libopenni as dependency (anybody an idea what for libopenni is?) libopenni depends on openni-utils openni-utils has error 132 Philip didn't have an answer. He said: "Looks like you don't have package libopenni installed that should be installed as a dependency but might not do so. Try to install libopenni first and then openni-utils." But: libopenni is dependent on openni-utils, not otherwise! Even if I think thats strange. Using apt, aptitude or synaptic, all the same problem. I downloaded the debs different times on different days, I dont think its a download corruption problem. Since i can not use openni-utils and so not use digikam 2, i went back to digikam 1.9, which is working. But I am not happy with that, now having two databases.... I didn't make it to install openni-utils from source. I thought it might be a problem with missing SSE3 on, as my pentium mobile 4 doesn't have it. Didn't find anything about openni and digikam on the web. any ideas? cheers, manfred _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Hi Manfred,
I have experienced the same issue when installing Digikam2 on a friend's computer. I didn't find a solution yet. It's very strange because we are both running Kubuntu 11.04, I have used Phil Johnsson PPA in both case and it installed fine on my computer but not his. > niLicense: error while loading shared libraries: libOpenNI.so: cannot open > shared object file: No such file or directory I remember I checked that libOpenNI.so existed and ran ldconfig, but with no luck. Googling didn't help much. I will try again. Thanks Herve,
at least one, who experienced the same problem. may I ask: on your working platform does libopenni have openni-utils as dependency? Like Philip mentioned earlier I think I should first install libopenni and the libopenni shouldn't have dependencies. Well, actually Mark's output shows the same, but he didn't mention problems. I want to mention again, that openni on its website says, openni needs processors handling SSE3. My thinkpad t43p pentium mobile 4 doesn't have it. They say one could change the flags for the makefiles, to make it work on processors with no SSE3 support. I tried my best, but that higher than my level of knowledge. Installing from the sources was not possible for me with the original downloaded sources from openni website. Hi Manfred and everyone,
instead of the "philips" PPA I used "kubsoup", because packages there are still built against KDE 4.6 and I did not want to upgrade my complete KDE. I also had trouble with the openni dependency. My temporary solution was to install individual .deb files with # dpkg -i --ignore-depends [openni_something] See "man dpkg" for details. You can get the individual deb files from https://launchpad.net/~kubsoup/+archive/digikam by clicking on "View package details". It's certainly not the most elegant way, but for me it worked (after I had recompiled the debs from source for my PPC computer). You find the openni packages in my "extra" PPA where you also find
Digikam 2 built for KDE 4.6.x so you don't need to upgrade to KDE 4.7.x if you don't want to. I know that some doesn't like the other extras you get upgraded in my "extra" PPA. Anyway, it looks like kubsoup missed to include porting my openni packages to his PPA as broke Digikam 2 out from my "extra" PPA. Install it and you will not have any problems with missing openni packages or library dependencies when you later run Digikam. Openni is supported (and built against) in OpenCV 2.3. /Philip On Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 1:22 PM, Vlado Plaga <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi Manfred and everyone, > > instead of the "philips" PPA I used "kubsoup", because packages there > are still built against KDE 4.6 and I did not want to upgrade my > complete KDE. @ Vlado
I tried dpkg ignoring dependencies. Like before, openni-utils and libopenni is installing, but not configuring. This way digikam2 doesn't install. @ Philip If it's not possible to regular install openni on my computer I can not use Digikam2. Thats actually a regression, as before the ppa has changed to Version 2, the rc was installing without problems and was working fine here. Maybe my 4 years old notebook is just to old for using the newest version of Digikam2 without special knowledge about installing openni. I will try to get more informations about openni and how to install it on computers not supporting SSE3, I still think, thats the problem. @ all I suggest everybody who has a running digikam2-rc before updating: check if openni-utils and libopenni is installing and configuring! If so, update to Version 2 of Digikam shouldn't be a problem. If not, dont update! The only way back is to the 1.9 version in ubuntu repos and this way loosing all rc-version2 improvements like in xmp sidefiles stored informations, face recognition and so on. I hope very much, there will be a version 2 working on all kubuntu 11.4 driven computers later. If there is any news, please let me know. Any further support highly appreciated, Manfred _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

manfred <[hidden email]> wrote: > @ Vlado > > I tried dpkg ignoring dependencies. Like before, openni-utils and > libopenni is installing, but not configuring. This way digikam2 > doesn't install. It is definitely possible (and should not be too difficult) to install packages in Debian (=Ubuntu) with broken dependencies. Whether this should be recommended is a different story... but if that's the easiest way to get digiKam to work, I'd do it. Probably you need to "apt-get remove openni-utils libopenni". Here is the install command I used to install digikam, from my Bash "history" (all in one line): # dpkg -i --ignore-depends=libopenni digikam2_2.0.0-natty~ppa1kde47_powerpc.deb digikam2-data_2.0.0-natty~ppa1kde47_all.deb digikam2-doc_2.0.0-natty~ppa1kde47_all.deb showfoto2_2.0.0-natty~ppa1kde47_powerpc.deb showfoto2-doc_2.0.0-natty~ppa1kde47_all.deb These are not really kde47 DEBs, since I compiled them myself for KDE 4.6 on PPC (but without changing the Debian description files). Instead of listing individual files a "*.deb" should also work. > @ Philip > If it's not possible to regular install openni on my computer I can > not use Digikam2. Is it not possible? Have you tried Philip's extra PPA? https://launchpad.net/~philip5/+archive/extra [...] > I will try to get more informations about openni > and how to install it on computers not supporting SSE3, I still > think, thats the problem. That's of course possible, judging from what you write in your mail from Thu, 11 Aug 2011 09:37:17: > openni-utils (1.3.2.1~git110718-natty~ppa1) "is going to be > configured" ... Illegal instruction On the other hand it seemed unlikely to me, so I tried it myself, on my 2007 AMD64 notebook (with SSE2, but not SSE3, according to /proc/cpuinfo). I added Philip's PPA (add-apt-repository), apt-get updated, then called "install digikam2" - voilà. Thanks, Philip, good work! Manfred: I saw you still use the i386 version. Is your Pentium 4 not capable of running the AMD64 version, or are other closed-source programs holding you back? According to Wikipedia[1] post-2004 Pentium 4 should be able to run the AMD64 Kubuntu. By now probably most developers are running that, if only to access more than 2 or 3 GByte of RAM, so maybe you want to change as well? I haven't really looked in to if it's possible to switch off SSE3
support during build of OpenNI. I have to get back to you on that. It's auto-detected during build right now if it's supported on the build system, in this case on the Launchpad build systems. Many build scripts have that as an option but OpenNI is not the standard way. /Philip On Fri, Aug 12, 2011 at 5:49 AM, manfred <[hidden email]> wrote: > @ Vlado > > I tried dpkg ignoring dependencies. Openni is optional supported for OpenCV 2.3 during build but as far as I know not really needed for functionality in Digikam but might be nice for others who want that usability with OpenCV 2.3. As my OpenCV 2.3 is linked against OpenNI Digikam will indirectly inherit the problem if your CPU doesn't support SSE3. I'm looking into an OpenNI update without the use of SSE3. I could use some testers that have a computer with Ubuntu 11.04 and a CPU without SSE3 support who use my Digikam 2 packages. If so let me know and I'll email you rebuils of the OpenNI packages (about 700 kb) without SSE3 support to try out before I upload them to Launchpad.
