Right now I (seem to) have to click each unrecognized face to apply a face tag,
resulting in slight delays until I can tag the next. I would prefer to be able
to select many faces and apply the same name to all selected.

Just tested : from face management icon view, select all items which must be
tagged with same face tag, go over the first item on the selection with the
mouse and enter the name of face (or select it from list of existing face tag).
All items will be face tagged at the same time...
