I have a total of 2052 photos on a 32GB card split up in 14 folders. I had to
wait about 90 seconds until the import window showed "(2,052 items)". I don't
want to wait 90 seconds, I want to see the list of filenames immediately.

time find /run/media/bob/disk/DCIM/
real    0m0.018s
user    0m0.004s
sys     0m0.007s

If I can get a list of all files on the card in 0.004s, then surely the Import
window can do the same.
