Hi,
is there a plan to introduce an "open with external editor" feature?

Dear Frederic,

We have the same problem, but when we use digikam we do not want to
use the default application: we would like to select the application
at opening time between Capture One, Lightroom, Lightzone,
Rawtherapee, with Rawtherapee being the default. Is that feasible?

Best,

Hi

I have the same understanding, and when I see I need to change the
desktop setting I decided to keep it as it is (don't want to open GIMP
when willing to see an image)

Re: digikam 5.8 - windows : open with external editor

NeiNei
Hi there,

yes, I second this.
It kept and keeps me away from changing the default application in
Windows 7.

In Digikam with KDE there I have "Open (F4)" and "Open With". "Open
with" offers a sub-menu where I could choose from different applications
dealing with my photos.

It would be nice if Digikam in Windows would show the same as I have in
in KDE.

Thanks

Re: digikam 5.8 - windows : open with external editor

Gilles Caulier-4
yes. under Windows and MacOS, there is no rules available as under Linux to list application installed.

The API used from digiKam to play with external application come from KDE. This only work under Linux.

I already re-routed a bug about to support non Linux desktop, but there is no response about.

To solve this problem we can :

1/ use the native API (Windows, OSX). I know that other Qt application use this way, as for exemple, the excellent Clementine Audio player.
2/ Wait a pure Qt solution. Perhaps something exists now with Qt 5.10. I must admit that i don't yet checked this point since a long time.

I prefer the 2/ as it's portable and do not require any specific native langage other than C++ (as objective C for OSX).

I think if 'open with default application' e.g. Windows 10 Photos app works, then you can open with Lightroom etc. from there (from photos app)

Re: digikam 5.8 - windows : open with external editor

NeiNei
Hi there,
Gilles suggestion on option 2 (pure Qt solution) would be indeed most
desirable. However, at the moment we do not know if/when this will be
implemented in the Qt framework. Perhaps Gilles might offer us a
direction on this?
Besides that I found perhaps another way/workaround as realized in a DAM
product called IMatch which is working on Windows.
There, one could define links (Favorites) to external applications which
could then be opened via an individually assigned shortcut.

In reply to this post by AndriusWild
Dear Gilles and Andrey,

I poked around in the KDE bug list database and found this entry with a
possible workaround or fix by Simon Frei:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=380065
However, I do not know whether this fits to Gilles favorite suggestion
of option 2 (pure Qt solution). Perhaps Gilles has some time to review it?

Thanks in advance,
NeiNei

yes. under Windows and MacOS, there is no rules available as under Linux to list application installed.

Re: digikam 5.8 - windows : open with external editor

I currently review the patch, but i'm not yet satisfied by the patch because i want to separate the dedicated linux and windows desktop implementation (and later MacoOS too).

I'm working on.

Re: digikam 5.8 - windows : open with external editor

NeiNei
Dear Gilles,

Thanks for working on the issue "open with external editor" which I saw
in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=380065

So I would like to ask whether it worked with your idea of separating
the Linux and Windows implementation.

Thanks in advance,
NeiNei
