My wife recently installed digikam 7.0 on her laptop. She just had a crash, and lost her albums view in the program when she opened Digikam. The photos exist on a Network Attached Storage NAS device, and the NAS was disconnected by the crash when she opened Digikam to a blank screen.
So it is now rescanning in her albums, which is taking a long time since there are thousands of photos. I'm wondering how to prevent this from happening again, if possible. She isn't sure if Digikam caused the crash or something else. Would she be better off with the appimage? Her database is stored on her local laptop drive. thanks, JIm |

This *might* be caused by a change in IP address for the NAS. Most home routers use DHCP, with which IP addresses are attributed by the router (as DHCP host). Normall, the attributed IP address can/will change at every connection, but you can tell the router to use a fixed address for a given MAC address. MAC (nothing to do with Apple) are unique to each network card (at least in theory), and thus, in practice, for each device. Perhaps useful to do this for any server on your network (like a NAS, or a network printer). Remco |

I run linux on my computer and have the NAS shares mapped in my fstab file, and my computer has a static IP address. I'm also hardwired into a switch. However she uses WiFi and probably her computer is on DHCP. I could give her a static one I think, but maybe that isn't the problem. When she opened up Digikam, with no albums showing, under the Preferences (settings for Mac), it did show the file path to her albums but it is set on a "local drive". When she tried to set it on the "networked drives" path (in trying to get her albums to reappear), it said the path was already in use. Perhaps I should have her remove the "local drive" path and re-map to the "network shares". |
