[digiKam-users] temporary port photos and metadata from MariaDB/network share for editing when offline / being on the move

PackElend
Hallo
As I'm about to leave for a longer term train ride I'm wondering if I can extract photos including their metadata and store them in a local folder and database.
As soon as I have access to my home network I port them back.

Can that be done?

Hi,

I have done it a few times, but if somebody wants to pipe in for a
better way, please do...

1. Don't worry about the database.
2. I have an empty sqlite db on my laptop
3. I do all my stuff on the laptop during the trip, like basic info,
selection, tagging...
4. Just make sure that configure > metadata > sidecars > write to
sidecars
5. Back at home base, copy both the files and the xmps to a directory
covered by the "main digikam"

thx for the reply.
I thought about something like an automated process. I would like to tag
the photos I intend to edit offline and start a script/plugin what
exports them and also imports them.
I reckon not everyone writes metadata to sidecars or to the files.
I addition I hope that could avoid to rescan the library.
Is that feasible?
