[digiKam-users] digiKam-7.0.0-beta2-20200105T135131-Win64 overwrite file 0x00 bytes

Tóth Csaba
Hello!

After the taging, when the digikam write the metadata back (face tags)
its overwrite the file big parts with 0x00 bytes, so its kill the file

(its happen twice, with tiff files)

how can i prevent this, or there is a switch to _always_ make a backup?
(even multiple backup is there is a backup?)

Thanx

Csaba

Hi,

This happen only with tiff files ?

How do you generated this TIFF file exactly ?

The Exiv2 library is the important component used by digiKam to delegate all the metadata operations in files, and i suspect a bug in Exiv2 with TIFF. I know that older Exiv2 version can be problematic with TIFF.

Can you share the TIFF file on the cloud to try to reproduce the problem here ?

Hello!

I worked on Tiff files and after the second error, i exit from the program, so I dont know its only with tiff files.
I try to tag the files just for reproduce this error, and i make a copy before.
After found an error, i tried do it again, but the second time (and third) it was no problem.
How can is reach the cloud to upload the file?

Something like google drive for ex, or another free share file storage web service...

Yes, i can confirm that your "wrong" image are corrupted (visible with thumbnail) and "orig" are fine.

If i tag "orig" files with metadata option enabled, file still valid here. I cannot reproduce the problem...

Hello!
The "orig" files was inside the digikam before the tagging. I run face detect, give a name the face and/or manual create a face rectangle with name, and go to the next.
Sometime after the tagging i get the wrong files.
I cant reproduce with twice with the same file.

Csaba
ps: i do heavy backuping before tagging..

Ok, so the dysfunction appear only with face tags, not regular tags.

What's about to disable the face tags registration in image metadata option from DK/configuration Dilaog/Metadata Page ?

Problem still reproducible ?
