[digiKam-users] ZLIB_1.2.9 not found

willemx
When trying to start digiKam v6.2.0 I get the following error message:

digikam: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libz.so.1: version `ZLIB_1.2.9' not found
(required by /tmp/.mount_digikapVV3Na/usr/lib/libpng16.so.16)

I also tried the pre-release v6.3.0 and then I get the same error.

I am running on Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS 64-bit

Re: ZLIB_1.2.9 not found

Ok, I read the post and I conclude that the solution is in the sentence: "I
built zlib 1.2.11 and was able to launch the appimage after that with no
other issues"
Please forgive me for asking because maybe I missed the point, but is there
no easier way to install digiKam than manually compiling/replacing system
files?
Unfortunately I am more a photographer than a linux developer.
I did some googling on the subject and might be able to pull it off, but I
am a bit scared to undertake such an operation since I read that one can
seriously mess up a linux config when something like this goes wrong.

Build zlib. No need, read below :

"Mint 18.1 (xenial) stock repos only contain zlib 1.2.8. I built zlib 1.2.11
and was able to launch the appimage after that with no other issues. Once
the new appimage is available I can uninstall the update and verify the fix."

Re: ZLIB_1.2.9 not found

Sorry to bother you again, but I don't know how to proceed.
I did some more studying on how to "Build zlib", but it is too complicated
for me.
Is there no other way to install digiKam on my system or is digiKam just not
meant to be used on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS?

Does it work if you try the 6.1 release?
https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/6.1.0/

In theory, all that it takes to run digikam in appimage format should be
double clicking on it.

Yes, the 6.1 release works without having to build something...

Re: ZLIB_1.2.9 not found

Ok thanks!
No need to hurry; meanwhile, I have also installed digiKam V6.3 on my Mac
with no problems, so I can start learning digiKam...
