[digiKam-users] Windows update install procedure-backup/restore rc file?

AlanH

Using Windows 10 I would like to install 6.4 over 6.3. Is the process just a simple install over an older version? I could not find anything in the digiKam documentation and a search only led to a Pixls post about backing up and copying the digikamrc into the new version to avoid having “to configure a fresh digiKam installation from scratch.” It seems odd (in 2019!) that an update would wipe clean a previous versions configuration. Any information about updating would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In principle, you can uninstall the old version and install the new digiKam
version, all settings are preserved.

Now comes the BUT, there are tools under Windows that install some users to
monitor a running installation and delete files created by the program also in
case of a deinstallation. If you use such tools, you should backup the
"digikamrc", maybe even the databases.
