[digiKam-users] Where to find info on out-of-date Ubuntu packages

Jay Dickon Glanville-2
I'd like to learn more about why the latest Digikam packages from Ubuntu are a little out of date. (I think the latest is version 5.9.0.)

The Download by Package page (https://www.digikam.org/download/binary/) says you can find out more information by going to this page (http://release.debian.org/migration/testing.pl?package=digikam). But that's a dead link.

Is there another page that contains this information?

Thanks

Jay

Hello,
I think the main reason is that digikam 6.4.0-stable and digikam 7.0.0-beta rely on the latest versions of various libraries e.g. exiv2 that are not available in ubuntu repos.
I switched to KDE Neon because they have the latest stable digikam in their repos while relying on ubuntu stable (18.04) base.
However, the official digikam appimage is so good nowadays. I have noticed that I run the appimage 90% of the time lately.

Thanks,
Andrey

You may be able to find a PPA to allow you to run the latest version, but as Andrey said the easiest way is to use the appimage.  I use it on Linux Mint, which is a derivative of Ubuntu, and it works fine.

Thanks for the info. It would be good to get the dead link was off the main website.

While the Debian link in the original email is dead, both links from digikam.org resolve for me. Not sure why you'd check a Debian page for an Ubuntu package either.
