What does "database cleaning" do?

I had to do some renames while DK was still running. I was dragging
and dropping images from DK into autopano. The new files are in DK
but...

Is there some orphans left in the DB?

1. How do I make sure that there's no orphan? (some kind of script
would be great)

2. How would I remove the orphans, if there are some? (some kind of
script would be great)
