A while ago I installed Digikam 7.1 onto a Linux Mint
20.1 MATE fresh install. I also installed Rapid Photo Downloader
& renamed all my images in 3 folders relating to my current
and previous 2 cameras. I then managed to create 3 albums in
Digikam and imported images from my locally mounted (via fstab)
3TB HDD. I was very impressed by both pieces of software - Digikam
& RPD. All I needed was a decent 4K monitor.
I now have a decent 4K video card & monitor so a couple of
weeks ago I attempted to import further/new images (also
RPD-renamed) but Import
menu option is now greyed out on
my (reduced ?) Digikam menu.
I also see that the Digikam documentation does not seem to
correspond with version 7.1. My installation (now?) has a
different menu structure.
Given the time lapsed and my lack of familiarity with Digikam I
cannot remember if the menu has changed.
See the screen dump below showing DK opened on top of the
documentation page from here: https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/extragea
... ndow-intro. The menus are different - the top level
menu is not present.
I eventually reached the conclusion that perhaps my menu had been
lost or corrupted somehow. I spent many many hours
uninstalling (several different ways - note: I could find no
.digikam config folder), re-installing Digikam and re-indexing
the images. Still I cannot import more images nor can I work out
why my DK installation is unlike the version in the documentation.
Digikam is now, or should be, a fresh install (unless somewhere
there is a file I missed when un-installing) and I can only assume
I am missing something very basic.
I am at a total loss how to proceed. Can anyone please explain
what I am doing wrong?
Alternatively is there another application capable of handling
thousands of high-res images including RAW, offering similar
features and that will work on Mint 20.1?
