[digiKam-users] Unable to edit Information panel under Captions

jmoliver
Hello,

Why are users unable to edit directly the fields within the Information panel within the Caption sidebar? Only way is to create a Template as the fields are read-only? Is there a reason behind this design? If the user simply wishes to edit a single field, say "Sublocation" he/she needs to edit a template.

Yes, these fields are read only.

And it has been complained about for over 9 years. It is still annoying
that this intuitive way of working is not allowed by digiKam.

Yeah, I figured there had to be a bug somewhere, but did not find it.

Not to repeat the comments posted on the bug. Just would add that as many photo organizers have (sort of) adhering to the Metadata Working Group Specs, in which certain application behavior and reconciliation of fields (XMP, IPTC and EXIF) are to be expected- Digikam should move in the same direction.
