Hi,
I'm running Digikam 6.1.0 on linux. I consolidated a bunch of photos from numerous locations and used ExifTool to clean up their metadata. I specifically removed 'all' the GPS/Geo-location data. When I open the collection in Digikam, many photos still display the 'has Geo location data' globe icon. Nothing I've tried so far -- including writing from Files to metadata, and Tools->Maintenance sync TO db -- gets rid of that icon. Talking over on the ExifTool forums, Topic: after exiftool removal of 'all' Geo/GPS, still appearing in Digikam afterwards? http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/exiftool/forum/index.php/topic,10269.0.html it's mentioned this be due to this Digikam bug Bug 229010 - No support to resync GPS data from digikams database into into jpg files https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=229010 That bug was opened in 2010, and last commented in 2016. I don't know what happened since. Only that I'm seeing this problem. I'd ask there, but can't seem to get an account on Forums or KDE Bugs. Is what I'm seeing still due to this open issue? Or something new? Rob |
In metadata settings, enable the option "Clean up metadata from the database
when rescan files". Perform a reread of the metadata (Item menu) for the images in question. Then the "Clean up" option should be deactivated again. Maik Am Mittwoch, 10. After executing it the "Clean up" option *was* deactivated again. But, the GPS/Geo icon is *still* shown for the selected images. Rob |

You can see (just) the tags, and the Geo data -- all of it is ID's as "unavailable", https://i.imgur.com/bAz58fh.png Still, Digikam says it's got Geo-location data for the image. Rob |
Hi Rob,
did you try to remove and reimport the pictures? Deleting them from the collection of digikam should remove all corresponding database entries. Digikam will scan the metadata while reimporting the pictures an generate new entries in the internal database. Hope, that helps. Hi Manuel,

BUT, removing the ENTIRE collection, closing/reopening Digikam, then re-attaching the entire collection and waiting for Digikam to re-init everything finally fixed it. Those images no longer have those Geo flags displayed. So it sounds like the problem was in the Digikam database? Shouldn't the reread/rewrite/Maintenance steps have taken care of that? Is that a bug? Rob |

IF sidecars are involved, you also have a good number of items in the XMP tab... Remco |

Again step by step:
1. [x] Clean up metadata from the database when rescan files 2. select the images 3. Menu-> Item-> Reread Metdata From File 4. (later) [ ] Clean up metadata from the database when rescan files Do not restart digiKam, or remove and re-add the collection. If digiKam still finds geolocation information, check XMP and sidecar, send me a test image. Maik Am Donnerstag, 11.
