[digiKam-users] Should i add face "zone" when person are not in front and/or in bad quality ?

Hi,

When there are person which aren't in front and/or are in bad quality,
should i add a zone or just add a the person tag but without zone ?

I think the "reconize" face will work better if i only add
zone when face is in front and/or is in "good" quality, am i right ?

What do you recommend ?

Thanks

Hi,

yes it is. The face recognition algorithm will use face region and tag name assigned to perform face similarity searches. For a functionnal face recognition, at least 6 similar faces must be tagged manually, else the algorithm is not able to recognize people.

If you tags non face region as face region, the recognition will produce face results.

Ok, so what i'm doing is good ? : Only add person tag (whitout zone) when i
don't see face in front OR the image is in bad quality, can you confirm ?

Thanks

Yes it sound fine. A simple text tags as face keywords is the right way.

Hello,

I have the same question, but now for person wearing masks (covid)...

If only eyes and top of the head is visible, should i add a face "zone" or
should i just only add person tag (whitout zone) to not disturb the face
analyze learning system ?

Thanks

Re: Should i add face "zone" when person are not in front ?

If the face region has been suggested by digikam, I tend to add the name of
the person, even if that person is sideways or wearing a mask. Although I'm
pretty sure that will mess with the algorithm.

Maybe digikam's algorithm could automatically rate faces by quality and only
use the best ones (non-blurry, non-sideways, not wearing a mask..) for
recognition?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply woenx.

What do you recommend Gilles or Maik ?

For now, i continue to not add a face "zone" for these cases, but maybe i
should ?
