I'm a new digikam user having recently migrated from
shotwell. I use it to
manage my output image libraries and am very pleased with
the software although I'm still finding my way around it.
I do have a small issue that is causing me some hassle and hope someone can help as I have failed to find a solution googling or in the manual. All the text fields in the right-hand side panel (Properties, Metadata, etc) are indented so far to the right that the actual information content starts over halfway across the panel and so is seriously truncated. This means I can't see, for example, the complete File: and Folder: entries. The field label positioning in all tabs, seems to place the rightmost field label character ':' on the vertical centreline of the panel which leaves restricted space for the data, and seems an odd waste of space. If I stretch the side panel so I can then see the info, that then eats into space for the image/s, and its just hassle. My folder naming standard comprises shoot date and project name, and all camera filenames are prefixed with this. Also the base filenames of images that have come through my development workflow, are suffixed with a development version number, the string '-final', the image's largest dimension (if resized), and a colour space identifier if not sRGB. So filenames in particular can be long. Is there any way to change the text indents on these side panels, ie to left-aligned; or can the font be changed to condensed; or is there an option to expand the text on mouse hover-over in the GUI? Thanks digikam 6.4, OpenSUSE Leap 15.2, Gnome desktop, 4k 32inch monitor The same issue exists on my test installs of digikam 6.0 on OpenSUSE 15.1 on my workstation, and digikam 4.12 on Mint 18.2 Mate on my laptop. |
Hi,
I recommend a lots to try 7.2.0 Release candidate AppImage Linux bundle available here : https://files.kde.org/digikam/ AppImage is just a single file which includes all the necessary to run an application without installing it. all the contents are decompressed in memory and nothing is touched from your native digiKam installed. Look at the right sidebar in action with this version. Look also how the mouse over shows a tooltip with a long version of the current file name... https://i.imgur.com/geDP6Qi.png But take a care, the step between 6.x to 7.x is huge, and we upgrade the database schema. I recommend to backup your databases before, else we will not be able to go back to the 6.x release. Thanks Gilles. I will have a look at 7.2 and find
