[digiKam-users] Non-automatic view refresh, high resolution display

Tom Cunningham

I must have missed the memo about having to explicitly refresh the preview pane when something changes outside of digiKam.  In other words, if I delete a photo outside of digiKam and the photo is currently displayed in the preview pane, I have to manually refresh the view in order for the file to disappear from digiKam.  I’m guessing this behavior is by design, but is there any way to get the old behavior back?  My problem is that the refresh often doesn’t work; I have to restart digiKam in order for the changes to be reflected accurately.  This is all on Windows 10 running digiKam 7.0.0, but I also saw it in immediately prior versions.  Also, is there any way to get digiKam to display faithfully on a 3840x2160 screen?  I have to do a system workaround to get digiKam to display normally on this higher resolution unit.

I have similar issue. I use Darktable for RAW processing, so when I finish to
process a photo, I export it to same folder from Darktable. However, Digikam
doesn't refresh the folder and even I need to close Digikam and open it
again to force Digikam to refresh the folder to update with new images.

You can press F5, in digiKam-7.0.0 also CTRL + F5 for a faster refresh without
having to rebuild the thumbnails. Or reactivate the automatic album monitoring
again, in the digiKam Setup under collections. We have already discussed why
the automatic album monitoring for external changes is deactivated by default.

Re: Non-automatic view refresh, high resolution display

Thank you Maik

I didn't remember where to enable/disable that feature.

About that, I just took some time to read a thread here, talking about
"refresh". Maybe you are bored of talking it, but now that I had problems
with that, I have 2 suggestions:
- Add to each collection a individual button to "Detect external changes
..."
- Update (Ctrl-F5) the actual folder when user enters or exit that folder

Dolphin/Krusader (file admins) refresh automatically the actual folder every
time, and I think there is no need to create thumbnails if that will take
too much time. It's only an idea.

Regards
