It's been only a few hours that I have installed digikam and I do have a few
questions I don't seem to be able to find the answers to. Any advice is really appreciated. I am on a mac 10.13.6 and using digikam 5.9 1. When opening digikam it always shows the "Welcome to digikam" page which is very annoying, is there a way to delete this? 2. Tags window on the left vs. the Tags filter on the right. What is the difference? Why two Tags sections? 3. Tags window left, when checking "No Tags" only 1 image shows opposed to many more that have no tags in the folder. 4. Different themes for digikam especially the grey themes make most icons on the toolbar invisible, can that be changed? 5. Different themes put a frame/border around the thumbnails is it possible to remove that? 6. Can you change the font size of the Filenames and Tags that appear under thumbnails? 7. Those familiar with Media Pro by Phase One, is it possible to import catalogs? Or somehow import the catalog sets and/or converted to tags maybe? Sorry hope I didn't ask too many dumb questions Cheers B -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
I'll try to help.
1. I think so. Go to Settings, Configure Digikam, Miscellaneous, Appearance tab, and disable "Show splash screen at startup". 2. The left panel is to search by Tag, the right one is to add new tags to pictures. 3. I just tried that option. When I select "No Tags", no picture appears in the thumbnail view (there should be at least a few hundreds). 4. No idea, sorry. 5. idem. 6. I would also like to know. 7. Never used Media Pro... what is a "Catalog", exactly? By the way, if you want to report bugs or suggest improvements (like those issues with tags and themes), you can do so at the bugtracking system: https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?list_id=1548504&product=digikam -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
Hey Woenx, thanks for the quick reply!
1. Only gets rid of Splash page but not the Welcome page <http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/file/t376731/2018-09-24_18-40.jpg> 2. On the right there are two Tags panels one under "Captions" which you are correct it does add or subtracts tags... But under "Filters" is another Tags section and that behaves more or less like the Tags panel on the left... Maybe I am not using it correctly? 7. I suppose it is the same as Tags but named differently? <http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/file/t376731/2018-09-24_18-49%281%29.jpg> I have around 25000 images which I have organized into different Sets/Tags and it would be great if I could import them somehow Thx -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
Oh, ok. No idea, I don't think there's no way to disable the welcome page. In
any case, it is only visible if you select the top-level album or tag. It doesn't bother me that much. I guess there's some redundancy between the Tag panel on the left and the tags in the Filters panel on the right. I use the Tags on the left to browse by categories, and the Filter panel to fine tune the results. For instance, If I don't want to see pictures of a specific person, I can set a filter to hide him. Same if I only want to find pictures containing two specific persons. All of that regardless of the or folder or tag that is selected on the Left. It's quite useful, to be honest. Yep, what your screenshot shows seems to be the same as Tags in digikam. In theory they should all be compatible (I migrated from another picture manager and I didn't lose any information). First of all, you have to make sure that those "catalogs" are saved in the metadata, and not only in Media Pro. In theory it doesn't matter if metada is written in the picture files themselves or in sidecar files. When digikam scans for changes or new pictures, it automatically reads any metadata it finds and replicates it in digikam. You can really check if metadata has been written on a file by using an external software (e.g. http://exif.regex.info/exif.cgi ) That being said, I'd recommend you trying one of the latest beta versions of Digikam 6.0, as many bugs have been fixed during the last few months. https://files.kde.org/digikam/ -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
Thanks!
Also, is it possible to see all the thumbnails of all the folders combined inside an album? -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
Never mind, I found it, thanks

Yes. Check the option in "View, Include Album Sub-Tree". Then select the
folder you want, and it will show the thumbnails of all of their subfolders. If you don't want to see the headers telling you in which folder the pictures are, check the "View, Separate items, Flat view" option. However, if you have more than one collection, it is currently not possible to see all the thumbnails of all the collections at once. -- Sent from: http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digikam-users-f1735189.html |
