[digiKam-users] New theme for the digiKam HTML gallery tool

Bob-3
Hello, all.

I've created a new theme for the digiKam HTML gallery tool,
and it comes with a set of four very different visual styles.

To see example galleries which show off each of the visual
styles, and for the download and usage instructions, see my
GitLab project page:

https://gitlab.com/Bobulous/digikam-html5-gallery-theme

(Just in case it's not clear: this is a personal project
I've been working on for the last few weeks, and is not
officially linked to the digiKam development project.)

There are bound to be rough edges, plus I'm hoping to add
further visual styles, so this theme is likely to change
over time. But for now I believe it's working (using digiKam
6.3 and 6.4, on Linux and Windows, viewing the results on
desktop and mobile at various screen sizes) and is ready for
people to use. For any problems or suggestions, please raise
an issue on the GitLab project interface.

Hi Gilles,

Feel free to integrate any of the Dark Themes I adapted for digikam (from
this post:
http://digikam.1695700.n4.nabble.com/digiKam-users-Dark-themes-for-digikam-td4709037.html
) if you wish, too. I would personally go with Optimal-DK, bit it's really a
matter of taste.

Thank you, Gilles.

If I add new styles or fix any rough edges then I'll commit them to my project on GitLab and I'll let you know.

Out of interest, when is digiKam 7.0.0 expected to be available?

Hello, woenx.

Just to avoid confusion: my theme is not a skin for the digiKam application window, it's a new HTML5+CSS3 theme for the HTML gallery tool which produces a web gallery from a selected set of photos.

As an example, take a look at an example gallery using the Lightbox style. And the same gallery of images using the Brown Card style. And the Feed style. And finally the Basic style.

Hello, Gilles.

I notice a number of Bugzilla requests asking for improvements to the HTML gallery, some of which the new theme can resolve. Are you happy for me to update those Bugzilla requests to add comments which direct people to the new theme, or would you rather wait until digiKam 7.0.0 is released?

yes, sure. Please comment on bugzilla, and annotate which file can be closed with your new theme proposed with 7.0.0.

Re: New theme for the digiKam HTML gallery tool

Bob-3
Hello, Gilles.

I've added comments to:
  • 374686 (should be resolved by 7.0.0)
  • 388476 (not yet resolved by 7.0.0)
  • 92462 (arguably can be considered resolved already)
When you say "annotate which file can be closed", can you tell me how I should annotate 374686 to show that it can be considered closed. Do I just edit the "Version Fixed In" field and add "7.0.0" or should something else be done?

I'll go through the rest of the "Plugin-Generic-HTMLGallery" bugs tomorrow and see whether others can also be updated.
