[digiKam-users] I managed to break the tag integrity. Need help.

sse450
I am new to digikam, still learning. So, this is probably a result of my
mistake.

Imported 50K+ pictures. Both, database and pictures are on the server.
The version I have is 7.0.0 Beta 3 on ubuntu machine.

Somehow, I managed to mess up with the tags. When I click on a specific
tag on the left hand side, some pictures come up but with none of them
includes the tag I clicked on. The information on Caption | Tags on the
right hand side are correct.

In an attempt to correct it, I selected all the pictures and clicked
Captions | More | Read metadata from each file to database. However, it
didn't fix the problem. Clicking on the same irrelevant tag on the left
hand side still shows the same pictures which don't have the tag I clicked.

The tags embedded in the pictures are correct as I exported all from LR
with the tags. I would appreciate any hint.

Thank you.

That is really weird. If you re-read the metadata from the file, it should
populate Digikam's database with the information from the picture and/or
sidecars.

Can you attach a screenshot? Maybe it will be more clear this way.

Also, are you sure that Lightroom really saved the metadata onto the files?

Thank you for helping me out.

You can check the screenshot from the below link:

When I click the boxed tag on the left hand side, those pictures come
up. But, none of them has any relation with that tag. However, the tags
on the right had side are correct.

Perhaps, it is better to rebuild the database again. Is there a way to
completely delete all tags from the database and rebuild them from the
files again?

Best wishes to all.

Yep, you are right. The tags do not match.

To rebuild the database... Well, you can do a cleanup and re-scan the whole
library... But at that point, I would just delete the database files
(digikam4.db) and start from scratch.

In any case, first of all I would do a small test, place a few offending
pictures in a separate folder, and scan only that folder in a clean
database. Just to see what happens. You can use the --database-directory
<dir> option when launching from a command line if you don't want to
interfere with your main library.
