Hi all! I shoot most of my photos with my Nikon D3300 in RAW+JPG mode. As I understand it, in this mode the camera saves a full-size JPG as an embedded "preview" in the raw NEF file. The camera does a fantastic job of processing, so most of the time when I'm exporting all I want to do is use the camera's JPG directly and not work from the RAW (I shoot RAW+JPG for the rare circumstances where I do want to go back and work from the RAW). Is there a way to tell Digikam to export the embedded file? It looks like some of the export plugins, like Flickr, use the embedded file. However, most of them just export the NEF file itself. The image editor uses the RAW and I don't see an option to switch it. I would be very happy with a way to simply export the JPGs to disk and I can deal with them manually from there. I'm using Digikam 5.9.0, by the way. Thanks! Ian

I think RAW + JPG means that the camera saves two files for each shot - one NEF and the other one JPG. I think exiftool can extract the embedded preview from raw files and it can be called from within digiKam. If you open a NEF in digiKam Image Editor or any other RAW processor you are developing your own version of the image so it is not JPEG SOOC (straight out of camera) any more. Hi, In RAW decoding properties panel, setup to extract embeded preview instead to use real RAW data. Et voilà... Best Gilles Caulier Le lun. 7 janv. 2019 à 19:06, Andrey Goreev <[hidden email]> a écrit :

Thanks Gilles and Andrey! The BQM workflow does the trick. It's not my ideal workflow, but it's good enough to get me what I need at the moment. Oddly, the JPG generated by that is a waaaay larger file size than the JPGs of the same dimensions extracted via other means. On the test file I tried it came out to 5.7MB, compared to 1.6-1.7MB for files from the Flickr export plugin or using another tool. I don't know what would account for that great a difference.
