[digiKam-users] Digikam tags - is their format documented in detail anywhere?

Chris Green
I'd like to use tags within Digikam but I also want to be able to
manipulate them myself using Python scripts etc.  Is their format (as
in how hierarchy is represented and what fields they are stored in)
documented anywhere?

Hi,

Look here :


This is the digiKam XMP namespace used to store main information which cannot be hosted in standard XMP tags.

digiKam follow the Metadata Working Group recommendations when it's possible. See the specification here :

OK, thanks, just what I wanted to know.  So Digikam tags are
specifically for Digikam only, that's not a problem, especially now
that I know! :-)

Note : digiKam use Exiv2 internally to play with files metadata.

You can use Exiv2 or Exiftool CLI tools in you python scripts. The metadat syntax will be a little bits different, but it work.
