[digiKam-users] Database failure

Perhaps I have used incorrect terms. What I did do was to grant full disc access to digiKam using the Privacy and Security section in System Preferences.

Your terminology is correct, these are new permissions introduced in macOS Catalina.

Um,

I thought that you can only assign permissions to users and groups on
MacOS and not programs...
