[digiKam-users] DK integration with rawtherapee

DK 6.4.0 appimage.

There's supposed to be some integration with rawtherapee. I'd like to
edit with rawtherapee, I haven't found how.

* There's Image editor settings: raw import using rawtherapee. I want
  to send the raw file to rawtherapee
* There's the open with, but that doesn't work either because just
  like I use digikam.appimage, I use rawtherapee.appimage and it
  doesn't show in the: open with

Any suggestion for using rawtherapee to edit the images?

I don't know what is going on but I would certainly guess that the use
of the Rawtherapee appimage is going to be the problem. digikam is
probably looking in the path for the Rawtherapee binary. If you put a
link somewhere that is on your path for rawtherapee and point it at the
appimage what does that do?

I just tried using Open With... and browsing and selecting the Gimp appimage,
and it opened the picture in Gimp without any issues. I don't have
Rawtherapy to test it, but I don't see why I shouldn't work.

Yes but it's not very usable.

Open with > others > browse drive (from the home directory) > navigate
to the correct directory and then it opens.

If at least DK would remember all these steps.

It has to be done for every image. It was supposed to be better
integration with RT.

What about offering a setup that would point to RT or DT or..., then I
could press F4 and instead of showfoto I would get RT or DT...

Right-klick on the thumbnail, 'open with' -> rawtherapee

Works fine in my Manjaro Linux-box.

Hi, thanks for answering.

When I had the 5.6 version of Digikam I could do that, but I dicided to
upgrade to the 7.1 version. Now I can't, there is no way. I'm using
Elementary OS, but before I used it on this platform as well.

Go to Setup dialog/Image Editor/Raw Behavior/Open Raw files in image
editor/Always open in Raw Import tool/RawTherapee

I'm on Opensuse Leap and the right click > open with works  IF you
install rawtherapee.

* It will not work if DK is running in a snap container.
* It will not work if RT is running as an appimage or in a snap
  container

Didn't function. Even when I try to "open with/others" it doesn't appear in
any list. Neither does Darktable.

"Didn't function" is one of the less helpful ways of describing your problem.
We don't know what you tried, what OS you are using, what version of the
programs concerned, and if any of the programs involved are in anything else
but a "traditional" executable.

As pointed out by others, flatpak, snap and possibly appimage keep the
programs in a sandbox for security reasons. That means they won't even see
whether other programs exist. They certainly can't start an external program.

So if you have digikam, rawtherapee and darktable installed in one of these
forms (flatpak, snap or appimage), tell us...

FYI, using digikam and darktable as binaries installed from a "traditional"
OpenSUSe repository, darktable does show up under the "open with" menu on
right-click. No need to use the "others" option, either.

Oooops, you are right. Here goes the details that I could find.

I'm running Elementery OS
Version of Digikam: It says 7.1, when I run "flatpak list" it includes
Digikam 7.0 (don't know if this is usefull)

When I run "snap list" it says that I have Digikam also but 7.1

When I run "dpkg -l" Rawtherapee 5.8 appears here, and also Digikam but
4:5.6

With "apt list --installed": rawtherapee/bionic,now 5.8-1dhor~bionic amd64
digikam/bionic,now 4:5.6.0-0ubuntu10 amd64 [instalado]
digikam-data/bionic,bionic,now 4:5.6.0-0ubuntu10 all [instalado, automático]
digikam-doc/bionic,bionic,now 4:5.6.0-0ubuntu10 all [instalado]
digikam-private-libs/bionic,now 4:5.6.0-0ubuntu10 amd64 [instalado,
automático]

In Synaptic it says Rawtherapee 5.8 and Digikam 4:5.6

and I think I've got a mess, maybe by trying to install the newer Digikam.

So, you have three different version of Digikam installed.  (5.6, 7.0, and 7.1)  

As the 7.0 and 7.1 versions are either Snap or Flatpack versions, they will be sandboxed and not able to run natively  install application (ie. rawtherapee)

You should be able to run the appimage version of Digikam downloaded from the Digikam.org site.  Make sure you uninstall all other versions as they'll just confuse which version you are starting.

As stated earlier, running Digikam in a sandbox environment isn't really productive as it requires data from outside of that sandbox, and opening up excretions to allow access negates any "safety" the sandbox gives in the first place.

But is there a way not so complicated to install the latest version of
Digikam without losing the option to open in other programs?

If your OS doesn't provide a recent version, try the official appimage
which should integrate better. See here:
