[digiKam-users] Copy and paste between digikam and file explorer

woenx
Ok, one quick question. It's not possible to copy a picture (or selection of
pictures) in digikam and paste it in a folder in the file browser in linux,
right?

Re: Copy and paste between digikam and file explorer

Ok, drag and drop works (it copies the picture to the folder), but if you
right-click-> copy, the "paste" button in nautilus (Ubuntu's default file
browser) is greyed out. Likewise, control+C and control+v does not work
either. I tried that in two different computers, with digikam 6.2 and the
last available 6.4 snapshot.

Is that a bug? I can report it if you want.

There was something with the Gnome file manager and Qt, I have to search
again. It works even under Windows with the Explorer.

Re: Copy and paste between digikam and file explorer

After a quick google I found this:

"Since there is no standard way to copy and paste files between applications
on X11, various MIME types and conventions are currently in use. For
instance, Nautilus expects files to be supplied with a
x-special/gnome-copied-files MIME type with data beginning with the cut/copy
action, a newline character, and the URL of the file."
https://doc.qt.io/archives/qt-4.8/qclipboard.html

I don't know if it's relevant.

Yes, that's the reason. Gnome has its own standard with "x-special/gnome-
copied-files" mime type. When I look at the bugreports for the Nautilus <=>
Dolphin, there probably will not be a simple solution. We would have to know
before that the user wants to copy to Nautilus.

Re: Copy and paste between digikam and file explorer

For me it's not a big deal (I mean, I found out yesterday after years of
using it). I don't understand how these simple tasks aren't more standarized
between operating systems/desktop environments.
