[digiKam-users] Confusion with Date and Time Information

woenx
Hello,

When editing metadata, there are three fields related to date and time:
Creation date and time, Original date and time, and Digitization date and
time.

I am confused about the proper use of each field. For instance, some
software (e.g. Picasa) only changes the "Original date and time" but not the
creation  or digitization date and time, leaving them as it was, leading to
two or even three different dates in a single picture. Which leads to
different sorting orders in different picture managers.

Let's say I get a bunch of pictures from a friend which have incorrect date
and times (sadly happens too often), or I scan some old pictures. What is
the proper workflow I should follow regarding to the date? Which fields
should I leave blank?

put the date in the file name like 20180607, eventually with the hour
(some phone do this already, very handy), and if you want, add some clue
of the image after the date. Most prone to be kept way
