[digiKam-users] Cannot find other apps to 'Open With' using digikam flatpak version

Hello, I have digikam flatpak version (7.1.0) installed.

I have RawTherapee from two different sources: flatpak AND from the standard
repositories in mint. I cannot get either to launch in digikam using the
Open With option. The dialog shows no applications (probably due to flatpak
sandboxing), and there's no way I can find of running command via terminal
or choosing .desktop file via the folder picker.

I have tried flatpak run org.rawtherapee.RawTherapee and also tried
‘gtk-launch rawtherapee.desktop’

I have also tried opening the flatpak desktop file itself by navigating to
/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications

Can anyone enlighten me as to how I can get digikam to open other programs?
I have been trying for a whole week.

Should I just give up entirely and go down the appimage route for digikam?

(Rant: some bright spark needs to figure out how to get flatpak applications
to have better intra-os visibility. Not digikam's fault. Or at least digikam
should document this better.)

I think it's inherent in the flatpack 'sandbox' philosophy isn't it?
It's one of the reasons that I avoid the whole flatpack/snap/appimage
thing if I possibly can.
