[digiKam-users] Can't Open Image in Gimp from DigiKam

Shai Gluskin
Hello DigiKam Users,

I'm using Digikam 6.1 from the appimage with KDE Plasma 5.12.7 in Kubuntu 18.04.

When I'm in an album and I right click on an image and go to "Open with", I get an empty app picker. If I click on the folder icon to havigate to the app, I don't now where to go. I've gone to:

/bin
and /usr/bin

but I can't find Gimp.

I downloaded Gimp from Flathub and installed with Plasma's Discover app.

Gimp itself works fine.

It is already reported as an error, that with the AppImage the "Open with"
under Kubuntu does not work. Here with openSUSE there are no problems.
Somewhere the call of a KF5 system function runs empty
(KMimeTypeTrader::self()->query ()). I'm loading Kubuntu and I want to test it
in a VM.

There is an error message from KF5 when trying to call the "Open with" menu
that the file "/etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu" is missing.

One possible solution is to create a symbolic link in "/etc/xdg/menus/".

sudo ln -s kf5-applications.menu applications.menu

Another would be to search the package that contains this file under
Kubuntu...
