[digiKam-users] Binary comments

Martynas Brijunas
Hi, I am trialing digiKam 7.0.0-rc. Strangely, in the Thumbnail view,
all my photos have "binary comment" displayed. Has anyone else come
across this behaviour?

Yes, it happened to me too:

Re: Binary comments

Martynas Brijunas
the behaviour persists in the 7.0.0 official release as well. This
affects photos coming from various cameras, including Samsung
smartphones. Are there any configuration options to work around this
behaviour (not sure if this is a feature or a bug)? Thank you.

Hi,

If this problem still exists, please share files on bugzilla entry to
investigate, and comment.

I'm 99% sure that the problem comes from the Exiv2 shared library
which deals with low level metadata contents.

Best

I don't have access to the bugzilla to comment and the bugzilla seems
fixed anyway.

I have version as shown attached on windows 10.

I also see binary comment since upgrade to 7.0.0 - see attached shot.

I can email some jpegs if it helps.

Martin

Hi Gilles,

thank you for looking into this. The file is too big for bugzilla.
Here is a public link to the photo:

Re: Binary comments

Maik Qualmann
I cannot reproduce the "binary comment" with my Linux developer version, but with the Windows version. Maybe my Linux Exiv2 is a version behind the Windows version. But you can see from the metadata that Exiv2 has posted here, that this string comes from Exiv2:

We will investigate the problem further.
