[digiKam-users] A question of date based searches

Rob D
I'm not sure if I'm having a brain failure, of if the function/feature doesn't currently exist in Digikam.

I would like to search my photos by a date, but independent of the year it was taken.  (ie.  July 4, or someone's birthday)

Is this currently possible?

Thanks!

Hi,

No. Typically, the searches by dates work with a range of dates.

There is no technical problem to run a sql query based on image
properties for dates, aka return all images with 4 july in creation
dates. It's just not yet implemented.

You can create a new entry in bugzilla about this topic. We can assign
this task to a student.

Best regards

[digiKam-users] digiKam fails to display some photos

JayRutherford
My setup: Linux Mint 19.3, digiKam 7.0.0 Appimage

I have been using digiKam successfully for some time now. When I look at my thumbnails, organized by date of photo, some days show no photos. Pointing to the directory of photos, the photos are there when viewed with my Linux Mint nemo viewer and it appears that only photos taken with my smartphone (Samsung Note 3, since retired) are the ones that don't display in digiKam.

Any suggestions for where to look? The properties of the photos look normal and I have necessary permissions.

Thanks for any help.

The problem is known and has been fixed when importing Samsung images with
newer digiKam versions. Samsung smartphone images all have the same unique
images ID. If you have not activated the display of original images in the
digiKam versioning settings, these Samsung images will be hidden.
Activate the display of the original images in the versioning settings and
then re-read the metadata from the corresponding Samsung images.

Hello Maik,

Thank you very much for your assistance. Your direction corrected the problem. I had not noticed the message in the lower left of the display that said how many photos were hidden.
