digiKam and Showfoto 0.11 splash-screen contest : time to choose !

Hi all,

Pre-selection of splashscreen candidate is done :

It's time to select best shots for digiKam and Showfoto 0.11.

This is my selection :

Showfoto : http://www.flickr.com/photos/digikam/3423148451/

Let's me argument :

digiKam logo is blue : i think a photo with a lots of blue tint is the best.
The same is true for Showfoto : logo is orange.

Of course, composition is important, and these items are very well
composed for splashs... Logo and banner
still the same than 0.10 and will come on the bottom of image.

I'm waiting your proposals and arguments...

Gilles,

I guess we need some transparent background for the status message when we use
the image of the peacock. The text will not be readable. We had this before
with the splash for 0.9.4.

For showFoto this would be nice:

because it basically has the showfoto logo in it :-)

Colors and readability are fine, but there is no lead subject (as
insect, or water drop for ex.)

yes. this one is great but readability of image is inverted.

We read from to left to right, and eyes will be stopped by subject.

It must be flip vertically and horizontally. Like this stairs will
start by slogan.

The older splashscreen didn't have a lead object sometimes.
I just choose images from this blog entry because I thought any of these would
be ok (they have already been filtered)...

But still I guess the peacock one needs some black, transparent bar behind the
status messages, otherwise it would be really hard to read. I had this with
the 0.9.4 splash (the one with the canyon), on my laptop the font was nearly
invisible because the sky was quite white.

Hum, well i will make to flickr some splash with logo using my
prefered shots to give more visual and final results.

I start to make formated splash. If you want to add any items, let's go.

1/ in gimp, fix the photo if necessary. Save has PNG.
2/ In Inkscape, load svgz splash from svn.
3/ In Inkscape, import your PNG image
4/ In Inkscape, compose the splash and export it as PNG
5/ Upload to flickr in digikam-splash group
6/ Add reduced Flickr preview to my comments:

Yes, I can help you here.
But we should not do work twice :-) So we need some indexing of the images.
If I look at the blog entry, I would say we just number them from top left top
bottom right.

So I would start to do the items 41-54.
Should I do a digiKam and showFoto version? So we can easily see what is
working well with what logo?

I have done 4 items, my preferred.

Try with your preferred pictures. No need to do all items. study which
can be the best for you.

Personally, the blue bird for digiKam rock really...

For showfoto, i'm not sure yet.

No. text is generated by application at startup

Note : we cab adjust text color in code if necessary, or better add a
gray transparent text background to be sure that it's always visible
