Gilles,

I just downloaded the source from the KDE-repo and compiled it on an openSUSE 12.3 system. Though I didn't get any warnings or error messages during compile time, after installation digikam setup tells me that there are "No Kipi plugin installed". During the past two weeks I was using the prerelease 3.4.0 from git. That one worked with all kipi plugins. So I switched back to the prerelease source, recompiled and installed it, and again prerelease has all kipi plugins accessible Looks to me that something must be wrong with the install procedure of the latest-greates 3.4.0 ???

I'm sure that nothing have been changed in libkipi and kipi-plugins

Re: digiKam Software Collection 3.4.0 is out...

Well this is very strange. I recompiled both versions today in the same environment. The prerelease labeled as Rev:

ead2a9e37fa7e8b5029306facfed9a0f153643d9

works just fine with all kipi plugins. The newest version from : http://master.kde.org/stable/digikam/digikam-3.4.0.tar.bz2
doesn't show any kipi-plugin at all after compilation. I will wait until somebody else updates the opensuse repositories with the official 3.4.0.

Thanks for this new version !

I just note (may be) a small mistake in installing tarball page.

the first command is

bootstrap.linux

which do nothing, instead of

./bootstrap.linux

and a last question, what is the default prefix ? /usr or something else ?

The default prefix of bootstrap.linux is the prefix used for KDE
installation (i.e. returned by the command kde4-config --prefix),
usually /usr.

Unfortunately, changing it is tricky due to the plugin infrastructure.
One solution is to use bootstrap.local, but it requires extra commands
to be run from the command line, and a more complicated command line
to run digiKam (see README.LOCAL).

Re: digiKam Software Collection 3.4.0 is out...

Elle Stone
I built the pre-release digikam 3.4 with no problems. But the release from here:
http://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/digikam-3.4.0.tar.bz2.mirrorlist

is giving problems. No doubt I'm doing something wrong because I don't
understand cmake so building kde packages is never easy for me.
Typing ./bootstrap.linux gives this error message:

$ ./bootstrap.linux
CMake Error: The source directory
"/home/elle/code/sourcecode/digikam/digikam-3.4.0" does not appear to
contain CMakeLists.txt.
Specify --help for usage, or press the help button on the CMake GUI.

Also, I'd like to install digiKam to /usr/local but there is no
"bootstrap.local" file.

Also, I'd really like to install digiKam after disabling almost all of
the kipi plugins, along with face recognition, geo-location, and
versioning. Can any of these be disabled at build time?

That makes it look like an error in the download or the unpacking: I just
build the 3.4.0 release from the tar ball and had no problems with
bootstrap.linux (after getting all the required dependencies, of course)

I've just downloaded the file you are mentionning and found all files
(bootstrap.linux, boostrap.local, and CMakeLists.txt). What did you do
exactly after downloading? I suppose you uncompressed the archive. Did
it uncompress correctly?

As I said before, installing outside KDE install prefix is tricky. Can
you start a new thread in the mailing list for that? I can help you if
you get stuck, it's just that we may need to exchange a few more
emails.

I do not think that there is a way to prevent plugin from being built
(except for missing depencies, but some of those plugins have none).
However, you still can disable them in digiKam's configuration.

I do not know about other digiKam features.

Hmm, I think maybe I copied the extracted files over to another
directory before they finished extracting completely. So completely
user error. Sorry! Now all the files are as expected.

The next time I have a reason to test digiKam from git, may I take you
up on your kind offer at that point?

With "make" rather than cmake usually there is a ./configure file that
allows setting of certain options. Is there something similiar with
cmake?

The only kipi plugin I actually use is import/export from/to remote
computer (which is a strange label for exporting images to another
drive on my own computer, but that's what the plugin is called). A
long time ago I built digikam without most of the kipi plugins by
deleting the individual plugin build folders. But I forget exactly
what I did and was hoping there were configurable options.

It seems that every time I upgrade digiKam all those plugins get
re-enabled again.

Any time.

./configure an unreadable script generated by an ugly (in my opinion)
and old build systems (namely, the autotools). Many project stick to
it maybe because a lot of work was put into the autotools scripts, but
build systems like CMake have a wider range of features. Note that a
project whose build system is CMake still using make for the
compilation...

As for option switches during configuration prior to compilation, I
think that it's only a matter of implementing it (or not). At the
moment, for the Kipi-plugins, at don't see any in the CMakeLists.txt
file. If that's something you want, maybe you can open an entry in the
bugzilla?

You can manually delete (or comment) any line beginning with
"ADD_SUBDIRECTORY" in extra/kipi-plugins/CMakeLists.txt (except for
"common") you do not need.

Maybe another bugzilla entry then?

But still without the 'refocus' (deconvolution) tool, i.e. without Eigen3
compiled in. This library (a compile-time only dependency) is available in
the KDE 4.11 repository, so it's easy enough to compile Digikam for
yourself.
