digiKam 0.9.4-beta1 release

Dear all digiKam fans and users!
The digiKam development team is happy to release 0.9.4-beta1. The digiKam tarball can be downloaded from SourceForge as well.

NEW FEATURES:
General :
 1. Color theme scheme are pervasively applied in graphical interfaces, giving digiKam a real Pro-look when dark schemes are selected.
 1a. Color theme scheme can be changed from either Editor or LightTable.
 2. Updated internal CImg library to last stable 1.2.7 (released at 2008/01/23).
 3. Add capability to display items count in all Album, Date, Tags, and Tags Filter folder views. The number of items contained in virtual or physical albums can be displayed next to its name. If a tree branch is collapsed, parent views sum-up the number of items from all undisplayed children views. Items count is performed in background by digiKam KIO-Slaves.
 A new option from Setup/Album dialog page can toggle on/off this feature.

AlbumGUI :
 4. Add a new tool to perform Date search around whole albums collection: Time-Line.
 Timeline is a new left sidebar tab. It's a great tool complementary to the calendar. Try it out!
 5. In Calendar View, selecting Year album shows all images of the full year.
 6. New status-bar indicator to report album icon view filtering status.

I really don't like the fact that digiKam is interfering with my
KDE-themes. Even the default for digiKam isn't the same as the theme I
installed for KDE. Apart from the album background, I would like
digiKam to look the same as all other apps I am using.

I appreciate the fact that a lot of users will like the cureent change,
but it would be great if the former approach from before 0.9.4-beta 1
would still be an option.

Yes, but why is the windowbackground another shade of grey than the
theme I am using. #DBDBDB versus EEEEEE. Not that big a difference, but
noticeable.

unfortunately, I have the following problems with the current development
version of digikam:

When I download the sources of the 0.9.4-beta1, configure tells me that I need
libkexiv2 library >= 0.1.7 and libkdcraw library >= 0.1.4.

But, looking on kipi-plugins.org, I find only libkexiv2 0.1.6 and libkdcraw
0.1.3, which apparantly are not recent enough.


So I tried to go for the svn version of the libs instead, but during the
checkout I received the error:

Fetching external item into 'libs/admin'
svn: Unrecognized URL scheme
for 'https://svn.kde.org/home/kde/branches/KDE/3.5/kde-common/admin'

Is the svn currently broken or am I doing something wrong? Or where could I
obtain the most recent versions of libkexiv2 and libkdcraw if not from
kipi-plugins.org?

Hi,

regarding the new default "dark" look of digikam, two things seem not to fit
very well:

1) the title bars and window borders are still in standard kde colors
2) the color of the timeline view is always neon green. maybe it could be
styled according to the selected theme, i.e. orange in the "dessert" theme?
and maybe the rating stars could be in that color, too?

probably not much can be done about 1), but changing 2) should be possible,
and in my opinion, that would improve the look of the program.

Sure. I have tried to make something suitable as well. This can be improved. I will take a look .

What about us poor souls who don't use KDE but do use digikam?

I quite like the existing way that I can select colour schemes for
digikam which works without KDE (i.e. I don't have to know about KDE
or its configuration).  I hope this will remain.

Sure. I have tried to make something suitable as well. This can be improved. I will take a look .

Done in svn. checkout and try again.
