content-aware image resizing

tgdksub
Hi all,

Thought you might be interested in this snippet I came across on
Flickr.  "Seam carving" or content-aware image sizing, is based on a paper
presented at SIGGRAPH 2007.  The techniques present another option for
resizing images instead of scaling or cropping.  These techniques allow
images to be dynamically reduced or expanded in a way that preserves the
image contents.  They can also be used to remove objects from images.

There is a great YouTube video discussing the technique and providing some
interesting examples (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-SSu3tJ3ns)  and an
interactive demo (http://swieskowski.net/carve/)

The original paper is also available on website of the author, Dr. Ariel
Shamir.  (http://www.faculty.idc.ac.il/arik/)

cheers,
tauri
