batching dng to jpg conversions

Rei Shinozuka
a real fan of digikam writing in over here.  using it on
fedora 5 linux for a year or so now.  camera is an M8.

is there a way to process a number of dng (raw file) images
into jpgs?  i realize that there are potentially many controls
such as contrast range and curves which would have to be
automatically set, but generally, for example, then i see how
digikam renders the dng on the screen without modification, i
think it's doing a pretty good job adjusting the photos.

if digikam is not the tool, maybe imagik or the like?  oh yes,
the reason is making jpgs to send to snapfish or the like for
making into prints, or for displaying on our playstation 3 at
1920x1080 (1080p) resolution.

thanks much,

-rei

Actually, you reminded me of "Proofs" feature I was used on BreezeBrowser, when I was still managing the photos on Windows:

http://www.breezesys.com/BreezeBrowser/prohelp/index.html?proofs.htm

I have used "Proofs" all the time for quickly generating pictures for various "export" purposes (send by e-mail, photos for VideoCD, XBOX...).

I do not use DNG, but for the rest I use some simple scripts around ufraw-match and graphicsmagick

After the fast pace of editor improvements currently going on in SVN (pay attention to next digikam release!), I would not be surprised to see batch processing coming into digikam too. ;-)

Regards,

Luka

Gilles, I think the main difference is that this is one batch tool for one purpose (raw conversion), while Proofs groups lot's of useful photo processing (including raw conversion) into a single action. I think the main feature is "convenience" how you can do it in one step.

Which Linux do you use? On my fedora 9 digikam 0.9.3/0.9.4 already had the plugins integrated. So I believe the screenshot was a pointer to where to find the converter in the menu.

Cheers
