Write tags to file

Craig and Ellen Lindholm-2
Hello Everybody.

Just getting started with DigiKam and working with tags. At first I had the settings set to save tags to the file, but as I have reorganized stuff, I found that I was modifying the files repeatedly as I changed tags (which is a bad thing with JPEG). I would like to leave the tags in the database, and then periodically write the tags to the image file. I tried the item "Synchronize Images with Database" but nothing happens.

Does any do it this way, or am I clueless?

Thanks

Craig

Only metadata are changed, not image data... metadata are stored in a
dedicated section in JPEG.

Hi Craig,

I have something of the opposite problem; I have changed the GPS tags of
my images, but can't make it write them to the original file.  Where are
these settings you modified to save the tags to the file?

Thanks,
Liam

So does that mean the image is not degraded if I change the tags?

OK, so it was my own stupid fault here... I didn't realise that Digikam
copied my images to a new directory and the files there do indeed have
the GPS tags written.

Thanks for those who offered assistance.

Liam
