What happened to the Spot Removal tool?

Hello,

Ever since Gilles shared a screenshot of the spot removal tool, I was
eagerly awaiting its arrival. The tool was then postponed several
time, and now it's not even mentioned any more. What happened to it?

The code is in digiKam core, but disabled. The basis of tool work but it still a lots of cases where if fail to work, especially when you zoom on canvas.

So, we will try to found a new student to complete the tool next year.
