What are the default settings applied to imported raw images ?

Christophe Bourez
Hi All,

I made a lot of researches on the mailing list and the web in order to
find which settings have been applied to my imported raw images with
digikam (version 2.5.0 under ubuntu 12.04 LTS), but without success.
When I edit the image and apply the default settings (left untouched in
the configuration), I got a worse result from what I see in the preview
window of digikam (which is quite very good). I wanted to precise that
the camera does not embed a jpeg equivalent, so even if the preview is
named "Embedded JPEG preview", I could guess that digikam applied a
post-processing on the imported raw.
I tried also different noise reduction algorithms and luminosity
corrections, but I cannot reach the same result as seen in preview window.

Any help would be very appreciated on how to reach the same result
applied by digikam

Christophe

Default settings are listed in digiKAm RAW decoding config panel.

Re: What are the default settings applied to imported raw images ?

Hi Gilles,

When I open the raw image with the image editor (Settings > Configure
digiKam ... > RAW Decoding > Behaviour set on "Always open the Raw
Import Tool to customise settings") and if I press "Use Default" (as
mentioned at the end of this page:
http://userbase.kde.org/Digikam/Process_RAW_Files), I do not get the
same result as the "preview" done by the main window of the application.
By using the default settings during the edition, the result provided by
the image editor is noisier and the brightness is not as good as in the
"preview". This lets me think that the set of post processing operations
performed during the "preview" is different from the set of operations
performed by the raw image editor using the default settings. FYI, I
never changed the default settings in the Raw decoding config panel
(Demosaicing Quality = Bilinear, White Balance/Method = Camera and Auto
Brightness is checked, Corrections/Noise reduction = None).
