Video Thumbnails

Some of my videos have a thumbnail which is the first frame of the
video.  A lot of them do not have a thumbnail, just a symbol of a
clapperboard with 245 on it.  How can I set thumbnails for the missing
ones?  I had assumes that there would be a record in the database
pointing to it but I cannot seen anything.

My guess is that those videos you can't see thumbnails from are using a codec that you haven't installed support for. Digikam use gstreamer 1.0 for video so install packages with plugins for it for more codec support. There are several packages with extra plugins for gstreamer.

I have looked in the database and there is no correlation between codec and thumbnails, so it doesn't look like that is the problem, but is there any other way to determine the codec?
