Using Tags

Stuart T Rogers
I have tagged a large number of my photos. Now I want to be able to use
them but am having problems. What I hoped to be able to do was to select
multiple tags and only have Digikam display those photos with ALL the
tags selected. So far I've not found a way to do this.

Am I missing something fundamental here? Should I be able to do this?

To the right you have tag filters. There you can select any tags and
do what you want.

Re: Using Tags

Stuart T Rogers
Yes I see the tags on the right panel but that is for adding tags to
photos. What I want to do having added the tags is to select a set of
tags and have Digikam display only tose photos with all those selected
tags. If I select the Tags panel on the peft side I can only select one
tag for display.

So my question still is how do I select multiple tags and get Digikam to
show only those photos with all those selected tags?

Right tab bar, top down I have:
Properties
Metadata
Colors
Geolocation
Caption/Tags
Tag Filters

Try and use the last tab ('Tag filters'),
select the tags you want to use and check that 'Matching condition' is set to
'AND'...

Hope this is clear?

Re: Using Tags

Ah yes I've found that option now, however I dont see how it gives me
all photos in any album with all the tags. The logic to me seems
backwards as I get a red minus sign on each tag I select. When I select
all the tags I dont want it still show photos with ANY of the selected tags.

I just thought I'd be able to use the left tag bar and select multiple
tags and it would show all photos with only those tags.

Just select one of the tags on the left and then filter the remaining
tags with the right sidebar.

Re: Using Tags

Stuart T Rogers
It still does not do what I want. It shows photos with some of the tags
but not only those photos with ALL of the tags.

This really is far more complex than it needs to be.

To my ind all it needs is to be able to select multiple tags in the left
bar and display only those photos with all the selected tags.

Using the filters as well is an unnecessary complication even if it
worked which it does not.

Right click in the tags filter panel and change the filter mode from
"Must Not Have This Tag" to "Must Have This Tag" so you should get a
blue + on each tag you select instead of the red -. Also ensure
"Matching Condition" at the bottom is set to "AND".

Re: Using Tags

Stuart T Rogers
Well that seems to work in conjunction with the left panel selecting the
initial tag and the right panel the other tags (I get a green + sign
btw!). So now I see it can work.

Still seems to me that it could be simplified using only the left panel
tags with allowing multiple selection of tags, but I can now do what I want.

You can use only the left panel by using the 'Searches' function. This
is very customisable and you can do most things you could ask for, and
when you've established your favorite criteria, just save it for later
reuse.

The searching and customising of Digikam takes some getting used to, but
give it some time and you'll see it is very powerful.

Cheers!
