I'm relatively new to digiKam, so maybe I'm missing something. My goal is to quickly go through duplicates and delete the smaller images.
After I click Find Duplicates, I click on "Ref. images", then double click on the first thumbnail. After going with left/right arrow through the duplicates (let's say there are 5 of them), I press Shift+Delete to delete one of them. At this point, digiKam unhelpfully displays "Failed to load image" and kicks me out of that duplicate set. What I think makes a lot more sense is to let me navigate with the arrows through the other images in the set of duplicates, until I delete all but one. ... Okay, let's say I try to work around this and look at the images then shift+select the ones I want to delete, then press Shift+Delete. Again, the keyboard focus is lost. Instead, it would make more sense to focus on the next reference image. |

Have you tried using the pick labels available under <alt>+1, <alt>+2 and <alt>+3 (red, yellow, green flags, marked "rejected", "pending" and "accepted" resp)? Once you have marked all to be deleted with a red flag, filter on those and delete the selected images. Advantages: you can interrupt a session and continue at a later time, without losing the selections made, you can defer the deletion to a time where it suits you (e.g.just before a coffee break) Remco |

As for the advantages, I'm not going to dwell over whether I want to delete a bunch of dupes or not. If I decide to delete an image, I want to make it so, not defer that for later. Being interrupted is not a problem, if digiKam behaved as I described: I'd just come back and keep deleting images as I see them. Alt+3 is a workaround, but really, I see no good reason for digiKam to reset everything after deleting a file, so I've filed https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375573 digiKam freezes after clicking on label.png (61K) Download Attachment |

Up to you to decide whether it fits with your way of working or not. The 'Digikam freezes after clicking on the label' is new to me (I use the system I describe to sort and clean new series of shots and never saw any freezing). But I get the impression that any suggestion of a work-around only annoys you. Sorry for that, won't happen again. Remco |
Remco, thank you for the suggestion. I did adopt it as a workaround until a variation of the more direct flow I proposed on Bugzilla is implemented. As for the freezing, it only happened when I first clicked on the labels, perhaps as digiKam was massively writing to the DB. Hasn't happened since.
